Building public health capacity that lasts
The American Health Equity Association (AHEA) offers a free virtual presentation for public health organizations on why public health moves through cycles of crisis, investment, and attention, followed by periods of neglect and lost capacity.
Each cycle leaves more behind than closed programs and lost positions. Relationships, institutional knowledge, and community trust take years to build - and can be difficult to restore. The presentation explores what it would take to build more durable support for the people doing this work.
Sonia calls this organized courage: turning conviction into collective action so people are heard, knowledge is carried forward, and no one has to carry the work alone. The presentation includes time for discussion, where participants can connect these ideas to what they are seeing in their own communities.
Designed for public health associations, agencies, institutes, academic programs, and other organizations, the presentation can be tailored to the audience and followed by a discussion suited to your goals.

“With AHEA, Sonia has reframed the public health narrative: If we're at a crossroads, let it be the intersection of evidence, empathy, and community action.”
