APPLIED LEADERSHIP

People’s Health Project is AHEA’s community-action initiative, helping communities move from lived experience to documented evidence and organized action.

Through AHEA membership, people can help develop and lead credible public campaigns grounded in direct experience, community insight, and relevant evidence. Opportunities to support campaigns and participate in public action remain open to everyone.

Turn community experience
into public evidence and action

Community voice should help shape what happens next

People’s Health Project does not treat lived experience as an anecdote added after decisions have already been made.

Its Listen. Share. Act. model creates a structured path for identifying community concerns, documenting what is happening, and building focused action around what people need.

Listen

Begin with what people are experiencing and identify the health concerns that require greater attention.

Share

Bring community perspectives and relevant evidence together in a public Community Health Impact Report.

Act

Use what has been learned to build support and advance a focused, community-informed campaign.

Lead work that can make a lasting contribution

AHEA members can move beyond supporting campaigns and take a formal role in developing and leading them.

Two pathways allow members to begin with either a completed campaign or an issue they are ready to develop with structured support. Campaign applications and full program details are available through the AHEA member portal.

Submit a campaign ready for review

Members with a fully developed campaign may submit it for review. Campaigns that meet People’s Health Project standards and require no substantive development may move toward publication and launch without an additional program fee.

Develop a campaign through training

Members who need support shaping their campaign may apply for Community Health Leadership Training. The program guides participants through the Listen, Share, and Act process and leads to a certificate upon successful completion. A separate training fee applies.

Each approved campaign is documented through a Community Health Impact Report published on the Peoples’ Health Project platform, bringing community perspectives, relevant evidence, and the case for action together in one public resource. These reports create a record that can remain useful beyond a single campaign. Selected findings may also help inform the State of Health Equity Report, connecting what is happening in individual communities with a broader understanding of changing health conditions.

Membership is not required to support the work.
